Community Support by Binks & BB

15 years ago New Orleans was struggling with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. I was pregnant and wishing I could do so much more than donate money. I’m feeling the same feelings about how hard the people of Louisana are getting hit with Coronavirus. It’s just not fair to have to suffer two giant disasters so close in time. Today, March 31, Louisiana has over 5,200 confirmed cases of COVID-19 which is 30% more than yesterday. The food shelves are struggling to keep up with the demand of feeding those in need. Even though BB and Binks are based in Minneapolis, and we love to support local business and charity, there are no boundaries with COVID-19 and we feel Louisiana needs our support at this dire time.

BB and Binks will be donating to the Second Harvest Branch in New Orleans.
We are also donating to the Centers for Disease Control to support them in finding a vaccine.  If you would also like to donate please click on the links above.

One thing that we’ve been doing in my house it trying to earn money by good works and behavior. Yes friends, I’ve taken to bribery…and I’m ok with it! Both Bubba and Sissy got a jar with $10 in it. Because we’re embarking on new territory, I wanted them to really be invested in this. We’ve tried other offerings before but they fizzled out. I’m telling you the $10 was very tangible for them. I was pretty generous this month because I want to promote good behavior and learning quality.

Yesterday was the end of the month. The kids got to cash in! Ooh, it was so fun. I allowed them to spend $15 on a object for themselves (this is more than I will do in the future). But go big or it may not work! Bubba picked D-FantiX Rocket Toys, 6 Pack LED Foam Finger Rockets Launcher Flying Slingshot and Sissy picked DRESS 2 PLAY Mini-Mom Pretend Makeup Deluxe Palette. They were so very excited to get to pick their own presents!

Then I said we needed to save some money and donate some. We talked about how there are people struggling with COVID-19 and some families don’t have enough food to feed their kids during this hard time. I’ve thought so often how I’m incredibly lucky to be able to provide for my kids. And being in this situation at home can be so stressful. Then add the stress of lost jobs, not enough food, and being sick. Ugh, it’s too much. At first Sissy did not want to give her money away. I said she had to give at least $1. It’s important to help each other out! Bubba decided to donate $4 and save $2! Sissy started with donating $4 but in the end brought $2 more dollars down and said, “Mom, I think this is the right thing to do, don’t you?”

This is a time in our lives where we can do just a little more. It doesn’t have to be a lot but it can be something. It doesn’t have to be money, it can be a nice message on a driveway in chalk. I am truly seeing some beauty coming out of this hard situation!
