Now that we’ve been home for awhile the regular beauty regimes are needing to change. I was scheduled get my hair colored on March 28th. Yeah that didn’t happen and it won’t be happening for awhile. Unfortunately the grays are popping! Because I have such dark hair they are really starting to shine. I have been using Color Wow Root Cover Up. I love this stuff. It covers up really well. It’s kind of like an eye shadow. It doesn’t smear or fall on my skin. It simply covers up the grays. This products isn’t just good for now but it’s great for those in between hair colorings. It also lasts a really LONG time. Honestly, I’ve had mine for a couple years.  It comes in several colors from dark blonde to dark brown

Binks and I definitely have eyebrows! Another thing we’re missing is getting our brows and my…eh hem stache waxed! Three products that Binks introduced me Surgi Wax, Parissa, and Finishing Touch Hair Remover.

Binks has always struggled with waxing because she breaks out from it. These strips don’t do that! I just ordered some too. Just as my hair is revealing it’s true colors, my brows are a bit out of control and becoming a legit unibrow😬

How are your hands?! Mine are so very very dry! All this washing is seriously drying out my hands!!! My knuckles even started to crack. My favorite lotion is Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion. It is nice and thick but actually soaks into the skin quickly. I sort of hate lotion but this stuff is by my bathroom sink and my kitchen sink. It’s truly the best! Goodbye cracked knuckles and crusty feet…you know you have them too. 😉

I don’t know about you but I’m finding it hard to find time for self-care. Sometimes putting a face mask or eye masks just feels so good and gets rid of some toxins in the skin. These are some of Binks and my favorites. Wander Beauty gold eye masks Blaq eye masksPaula’s Choice Clay Mask Ballon Blanc Therapy Face Moisturizer.

I often do these masks while my littles are taking a bath.

Are you someone who puts makeup on everyday or you just don’t care? My friends know that I am a makeup girl. I like to get up and just get ready. I never reapply so you get what you get but I don’t feel super productive until I get my makeup on. I have olive skin so dark circles are very prevalent. I just look sick without concealer. So I tried something new for you all. I did just half my makeup so you could see the difference. What do you think? I’ll include my makeup too if you like what you see and want to see what I’m wearing…now.

On the left is me in my natural state and on the right is my finish daily look. There are some products I have used for a long time and then there are some I change. One thing I change often is moisturizer. SPF is a must but my skin likes to change it up. I have many that are in my rotation but I have found that I need to switch it up for some reason. Right now I’m using Paula’s Choice RESIST Daily Hydrating Fluid Face Moisturizer SPF 50. I’m a big fan of Paula’s Choice. I’ve tried quite a few products. The price point is pretty nice too! I use Rodan & Fields Active Hydration Bright Eye Cream (if you need a Rodan & Fields consultant email us and we’ll share you a name). Both Binks and I swear by this eye cream! I have taken breaks from it and I always go back. It really does work. My undereye is usually much darker if you can believe it. The next step in foundation, I change this product a lot too. Different seasons call for different foundation. Right now I’m using Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Stick SPF 25. This is a new one to me but I’m liking it. I use a foundation brush to blend it evenly! I’d say it’s a little lighter coverage but in the nicer weather that’s what I like. Next I use MaryKay yellow undereye concealer. I love this stuff and have used it for 20 years. I’ve tried other kinds but ALWAYS go back to this one!! (I don’t have a MaryKay consultant so if anyone knows one let me know, I ordered on Amazon). I also use Bare Minerals Original Foundation loose powder. I’ve used this for 10+ years. I just love the feel of it and the coverage.

Next comes eye shadow. I switch this all the time. It’s fun to have pallettes where you can just put on what you are feeling that day. Binks has given me a few and I’ve received some in my FabFitFun boxes. (If you want a free box code let me know and I’ll send you a link). Then eye liner. There are three I love and have for many years. Lancome Artliner for a liquid look (takes a few seconds to dry), Lancome Waterproof pencil, and Bare Minerals Lash Domination (this is the one I use most often). The blush I like the most in Lancome Subtil Oil Free Powder Blush.

What we must remember, and I struggle with this, is that we must take care of ourselves. This seems to be extra hard these days. But if we sneak a little time away each day we will be better off. Our families will benefit too. I’ve been trying to write this post for days and just keep getting interrupted. Today we were trying to do distance learning and the stress was just too much. After tears and screaming I called it. This is a time where we need to care just as much about our mental health as we do about school work, if not more. I piled the kids in the car, I let them choose what they wanted for lunch. We then took a long drive. We came home renewed and happy. This was self care and IT IS NECESSARY!

I am excited to have the opportunity to share some of my favorite Beautycounter products with you. As a physician and public health practitioner, I am passionate about helping people achieve optimal health with the lifestyle choices they make including what they eat, how they move their body and what they put on their body with personal care products. Unfortunately in the US there are hundreds of questionable ingredients as well as known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors in our personal care products. And the average person uses nine products every day. Beautycounter is working to change the industry and ultimately lead to all clean products on the market (not just Beautycounter).

Counter+Lotus Cleansing Balm

Counter+Lotus Cleansing Balm This is my go to multi-tasker. I use is for cleansing, as a make-up remover, as a hydrating overnight mask and a spot treatment on any dry patches on my body. It contains a blend of lotus extract, jojoba seed oil, avocado seed oil and smells great! Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion

Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion I LOVE this lotion! It is lightweight but so moisturizing. It has the ability to adjust hydration levels based on the skin’s needs so is perfect for almost all skin types. One of the active ingredients is squalane which is derived from olives. It draws moisture into the skin and helps restore elasticity.

Lip Gloss

Lip Gloss This lip gloss is an essential in my daily routine. It leaves a nice shine with a pop of color. I have a couple in my purse and then a collection with the rest of my makeup. It has a great vanilla scent and taste and leaves your lips really soft.

Kids Bath Collection

Kids Bath Collection This is the first product that got me interested in Beautycounter. Safe and effective products for getting my daughter clean and smelling great. The shampoo is no tears, conditioner works without weighing hair down and the body wash can double as bubble bath.

There are so many more high performing, safer products available and we continue to develop more. But what got me to take the leap from customer to consultant was the emphasis on education and advocacy. This is a company that truly walks the walk.

Makeup Eraser by BB

Kut From Kloth

So I have a girlie who LOVES to put makeup on! But let me tell you she needs some help knowing just where to put it on. She’s really into contouring but a lot of times will put on brown eyeshadow as her contouring powder. Ugh!!

In my winter FabFitFun box I received a Makeup Eraser towel. I’m blown away by it! It gets all your makeup off WITH NO PRODUCTS!!! I love it for myself but I also love it for my daughter’s skin. I only have one towel but I’m definitely going to buy more.

Sole Society

My daughter is also a dancer and after her first dance competition this weekend she had a lot of makeup and on using the Makeup Eraser on her face was a great way to get all that makeup off without hurting her skin. It’s really a great product!

Conair Curl Secret 2

This is the first posts of several for hair styling products of which I’ve tried many. This is my go to fav for easy curls that can last for days. This is perfect for a morning bed head solution when you don’t have time to wash and dry in the winter. https://amzn.to/2wrzSIj. *affiliate links

The best price I found was $63.99. I don’t recommend off brand tools as they could burn your hair. Curl Secret version 1 is $47.80.

Natural deodorants by Binks

Some of you asked for advice on natural deodorants. I’ve been using them for about three years and find that rotating brands is helping to keep them working effectively. The ones I’ve profiles are from my collection. I find that swapping out brands every few weeks increases the effectiveness. UPDATE: I’ve had a few questions about salt based deodorants. I’ve tried several and have not found them to be effective. I like the idea of them, and they may work for some but I have not found a product that works for me.

First things first…it’s important to start with a good pit detox. This will help the product’s effective as and will alleviate any pit rash that some people experience when using natural deodorants. *affiliate links

Armpit Detox Recipe

Mix together into a paste

1 tablespoon bentonite clay

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon water

1 drop tea tree oil (optional)

Apply to dry armpits for 3-5 minutes. Rinse. Repeat every few weeks. More often if you work out a lot or live in a hot climate.

Deodorants Left to Right

Schmidt’s-My favs are the rose vanillabergamot lime, and moonflower scents. For some reason, they work best for me. This is a great product that lasts all day. It feels a bit pasty going on but you get used to that. Doesn’t cause white streaks on clothes.

Love Beauty and Planet-This one feels like a regular deodorant, smoothly.

Humble-This stuff is awesome. I love the frankincense vanilla (sort of smells like a church) but if you aren’t into that, the lavender is nice too.

Native-A great product. I like to apply it before workouts especially hot yoga. It doesn’t sweat off and isn’t itchy during the workout. Native comes in many great scents. Lavendar rose is my favorite.

Finally, if you prefer a deodorant spray, the best is WeledaCitrus and Rose are my favorites. Sage is good too.

You asked. Top eye makeup remover. By Binks

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is pexels-photo-3373716-2.jpg

Like many, I have sensitive eyes…and I like to wear makeup. I’ve tried a million eye makeup remover. Some work but sting my eyes or make them greasy. To the extreme, they can cause irritation and red eyes. Other don’t seem to work at all or work halfway and I end up scrubbing too hard or using a second product. I usually follow up with a quick swipe of micellar water to make sure I get off all the product. Here are the ones I like.

Lancôme This product is amazing and one of my top favs. It is gentle and doesn’t irritate my eyes and gets waterproof eyeliner off easily.

Clinique Also a top fav. Same as Lancome, it doesn’t irritate my eyes and melts off eye makeup easily.

Make Up Eraser WOW! Just WOW. This takes off makeup with water. I Love IT. The only drawback is you can only use it once or twice then you need to wash it so ordering more than one is handy.

Erase Your Face Similar product to Make Up Eraser but come in a 4 pack.

CeraVe Gentle Makeup Remover and CeraVe Hydrating Micellar Cleansing Water. Both these products work well. A great value for the price.

Target brand Neutrogena knockoff I picked this up when I was traveling and didn’t want to spend a lot. It works very well. I like it better than Neutrogena as it causes less irritation. Make sure you shake it up before each use or it will lose it’s effectiveness.

Grown Alchemist Detox Eye-Makeup Remover (azulene, protec-3 complex). This came in one of my beauty boxes and is very effective. I like to use it before workouts, as it swipes clean with a cotton ball. It can be hard to find so I recommend hitting up www.grownalchemist.com.

Simple Sensitive Facial Rounds. These are handy for on the go or at work. I prefer to use reusable rounds, but in a pinch these can be very convenient.

Reusable Rounds I love these and they love the environment. Extremely soft, these don’t leave fuzz in and around your eyes like cotton balls sometimes do.

If you try any of these, send me a note to share how they worked for you! bbandbinks@gmail.com.

5 minute nails

Nothing makes you look more polished than a good manicure. I don’t have time for that business and don’t want to spend the money. I’ve been using Impress nails for a few years. It takes no time at all and they are fabulous. I have small hands so I make sure to get the short length for a more natural look but if you like drama than go for the longies. Tried and True by Binks

These are my favorite every day/week products.

Chi Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Serum. This is refreshing to a tired scalp especially after a headband or pony tail day. Light weight and smells amazing. Adds shine.

Gold Bond Neck and Chest Firming Cream. When you don’t want to waste your expensive face lotion on your neck. Doubles as a face and hand cream

Essie Nail Polish-I like Splash of Grenadine. Fast drying, smooth and glossy, this color pops and stay on well. You can add a second coat a few days later right over the top to freshen it up. This doesn’t yellow my nails and is easy to remove. They also have a 6 pack for under $25!

Caviar Overnight Rescue. My hairdresser recommended this product to help my hair grow around my face. This is where I was getting breakage. It’s helped dramatically. My hair is thicker and longer.

Scarf hair ties R HORSE 10 Packs Bowknot Hair. These are so cute and dress up a pony, bun or braid.

Erase Your Face. It’s true! These reusable cloths take off all your makeup, including mascara, with just water. My friend Anne told me about them.

Garnier Micellar Water Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water, For All Skin Types, 13.5 Fl Oz. This is a great makeup remover and helps get skin clean after workouts.

Reusable Cotton Rounds Coolcos Key Ring Bracelets. I love these. They are soft and absorbent. I love the zero waste. Easy to wash and softer than cotton balls.

What’s in Your Shower by Binks

It’s winter. In Minnesota. One of the coldest and driest climates in the world. My skin is dry in the humid summer so it’s double dog dry in winter. I swapped my soap for body wash a few years ago and it’s helped. Here are my current favs. I like to mix them up. Bonus, none of them leave a film in my shower like bar soap.

1. Method Pure Peace with peony, rose and pink sea salt. It’s has a great scent and washes clean.

2. Olay Age Defying with vitamin E. This on is especially mild and smells nice.

3 Dr. Bronner’s either peppermint or rose. (I love all things rose. BB would strike that and replace with eucalyptus or unscented). If I have unscented, I’ll add a few drops of essential oil.

4. Stemulations Daily Micro Derm Scrub. This is a great gentle exfoliating scrub. You can use it for your face. I got it from a FABFITFUN box and have purchased it several times since.

My son goes through a lot of body wash. I’m just glad he showers. Method has some great scents for men, but he’s just as happy using the Pure Peace. He’s even requested it when we ran out.

5 Skincare Products I’m in Love With by Binks

In random order.

1. ExfoliKate. By far the best weekly exfoliator I’ve ever tried. It has a slight tingle on the skin so it’s refreshing and you can feel it working. It clarifies and gets rid of dull skin without irritation or redness that many other exfoliators cause. This is great to use the day before a big event.

2. No More Needles Dr. Brandt eye cream. This is the 8th world wonder to gently and immediately reduce under eye bags. I love it. I use it in the morning and within seconds, my puffy eyes deflate. I’m in the middle of writing a piece about the many, many disappointments I’ve experienced with eye creams. No More Needles is a fabulous morning solution for those of us who wake up afraid to look in the mirror.

3. Matrix Brass Off Shampoo and Conditioner. Brassy blonde is another topic I’ll be tackling. This line is my new go to. It’s effective in timing down the orange in my blonde hair while not drying it out. It’s meant for brunettes who lighten their hair. I’m dark blonde naturally and this works well for me.

4. Now Castor Oil. This a a great multipurpose product. It’s an effective eye makeup remover, moisturizer for dry skin, lip balm, but my favorite use is for acne. It’s feels odd to put oil on a blemish but slap some of this on your zits before bed and the swelling and redness will diminish by morning.

5. Marrakesh Hair Oil. This product has the most amazing smell, spicy and intoxicating. It’s works well for my blonde hair and doesn’t darken it or turn it orange. It’s light enough to use as a hair smoother.
